"Gordon is always willing to share his practical (and theoretical and historical!) insights, and each session is jam-packed with useful exercises and insights. As a Cegep teacher myself, I must remark just how easily teaching seems to come for him. He's a natural born teacher, no doubt!" –Danny

I have 25 years of experience teaching trumpet to students from 5 to 75 years old. You'll learn the fundamentals of the instrument in a creative and positive way that applies to all styles of music, from classical to jazz and beyond.

Lessons are offered in-person, or online.

Our lessons will focus on expanding range and endurance, developing tone and articulation, and on phrasing and musicianship. We can work on repertoire, preparing for exams and auditions, as well as improvisation and composition. I am proud to have a diverse studio featuring beginners, amateur players, and professional musicians of all backgrounds and styles. I have experience teaching those with physical and intellectual disabilities. I have been a guest teacher at Concordia and Carleton Univirsities as well as New Orchestra Workshop (Vancouver) and with Orchestras Canada. In all of my teaching work, my goal is to help you grow as a trumpet player, and to play the music you love!

Over a ten year period, I had the good fortune to study in New York with master teacher Laurie Frink, the foremost exponent of Carmine Caruso's universally effective method. This approach is an integral part of my teaching, which also includes other methods learned and developed throughout my decades of playing and teaching.

Lessons are offered in English or French. Please inquire for rates.

A note about online lessons: Throughout the past four years, I’ve worked with beginner, intermediate, and advanced students, and have developed strategies to best utilize this method. Lessons are focused on each student’s needs, using play-along tracks and simple home recording, in addition to more traditional materials. You won’t need special equipment or software,  just your trumpet and smartphone or laptop. As with all my students, my goal is to help you grow as a trumpet player and to play the music you love!

"My 10-year-old daughter thoroughly enjoyed trumpet lessons with Gordon, who is an excellent musician and a very competent teacher. He could easily pass on his passion for music, was always in a good mood, with clear explanations and helped my daughter in discovering several styles of music, such as classical, jazz and Latin, which was very motivating for her. " –Mireille, Ville St-Laurent

''Not only is Gordon an amazing musician and someone you can count on to be on schedule, he is always in a good mood, patient with his student, and he makes the lessons always interesting and loads of fun.'' --Anne and Michael Liebman
